１ しかし、兄弟たちよ。その[1]時期と[2]正確な時については、私があなたがたに書きおくる必要はありません。
２ なぜなら、あなたがた自身が[3]完全に知っているとおり、主の日は盗人が夜くるように来るからです。
３ というのは、彼らが平和で[4]安全だ！と言っている時、突然の滅亡が彼らの上に来るのです。それはちょうど、妊婦に産みの苦しみが臨むようです。そして、彼らはそれからのがれることはできません。
４ しかし、あなたがた兄弟たちよ。あなたがたは暗やみの中にいないのですから、その日が盗人のようにあなたがたを[5]突然襲うことはありません。
５ あなたがたは全員が光の子供たちであり、昼の子供たちなのです。わたしたちは夜の者でもやみの者でもありません。
６ ですから、わたしたちはほかの人々のように眠っていないで、[6]目をさまして[7]落ち着いているべきなのです。
７ なぜなら、眠る者は夜眠っているのであり、酔う者は夜酔うのからです。
８ しかし、わたしたち昼の者は、信仰と愛との胸当を身につけ、救の望みのかぶとをかぶって[8]落ち着いていましょう。
９ なぜなら神は、わたしたちを激しい怒りにあわせるように定められたのではなく、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストによって救を得るように定められたからです。
１０ その方はわたしたちのために死なれました。それは、さめていても眠っていてもわたしたちが彼と共に生きるためなのです。
１１ ですから、あなたがたは今もしているように、[9]互いに力づけ合い、互いに[10]建て上げ合いなさい。
１２ 兄弟たちよ。わたしたちは請い願います。どうか、あなたがたの間で労している人、また主にあってあなたがたを[11]統括している人、そしてあなたがたを訓戒している人々を知り、
１３ そして、彼らの働きのゆえに、愛を持って特に尊ぶようにしてください。あなた方の間で互に平和に過ごしていなさい。
１４ また兄弟たちよ。私たちはあなたがたに[12]勧告します。[13]反抗的な者を戒め、[14]気の弱い者を[15]慰め、弱い者を助け、すべての人に対して[16]寛容でありなさい。
１５ そして、誰に対しても悪をもって悪に報いないように気をつけ、お互に、また全ての人に対して、いつも善を追い求めていなさい。
１６ いつも喜んでいなさい。
１７ [17]絶え間なく祈っていなさい。
１８ すべての事について、感謝していなさい。なぜなら、この事がキリスト・イエスにあって神があなたがたに求めておられることだからです。
１９ 御霊を[18]消していてはいけません。
２０ [19]預言を軽んじていてはいけません。
２１ すべてのものを[20]検証して、[21]良きものを守り、
２２ あらゆる[22]形の悪から遠ざかっていなさい。
２３ そして、平和の神ご自身があなたがたを完全にきよめて下さり、あなたがたの霊と魂とからだの[23]全てを守って、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの来臨のときに責められるところのない者にして下さいますように。
２４ あなたがたを召されたかたは真実ですから、このことをして下さるのです。
２５ また兄弟たちよ。わたしたちのためにも、祈っていて下さい。
２６ きよい接吻をもって、すべての兄弟たちに挨拶をしなさい。
２７ わたしは主によって[24]あなたがたに強く勧めます。この手紙をすべての兄弟たちに読み聞かせなさい。
２８ わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの恵みが、あなたがたと共にありますように。
1Th 5:1 But of the times
and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that I write to you.
1Th 5:2 For you yourselves know accurately that the
day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night.
1Th 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety!
Then sudden destruction comes on them, as travail upon a woman with child. And
they shall not escape.
1Th 5:4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness, that
the Day should overtake you like a thief.
1Th 5:5 You are all the sons of light and the sons of
the day. We are not of the night, or of darkness.
1Th 5:6 Therefore let us not sleep as the rest do,
but let us watch and be calm.
1Th 5:7 For those sleeping sleep in the night, and
those being drunken are drunken in the night.
1Th 5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be calm,
having put on the breastplate of faith and love and the hope of
salvation for a helmet.
1Th 5:9 For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to
obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
1Th 5:10 who died for us, so that whether we watch or
sleep we should live together with Him.
1Th 5:11 Therefore comfort one another, and edify one
another, even as you also do.
1Th 5:12 And, brothers, we beseech you to know those
who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and who admonish you,
1Th 5:13 and to esteem them very highly in love for
their work's sake. Be at peace among yourselves.
1Th 5:14 Now we exhort you, brothers, warn those who
are unruly, comfort the faint-hearted, support the weak, be patient toward all.
1Th 5:15 See that none gives evil for evil to
anyone, but always pursue the good, both towards one another and towards all.
1Th 5:16 Rejoice evermore.
1Th 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
1Th 5:18 In everything give thanks, for this is the
will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1Th 5:19 Do not quench the Spirit.
1Th 5:20 Do not despise prophesying.
1Th 5:21 Prove all things, hold fast to the good.
1Th 5:22 Abstain from every appearance of evil.
1Th 5:23 And may the God of peace Himself sanctify
you, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blamelessly at
the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1Th 5:24 Faithful is He who called you, who
also will do it.
1Th 5:25 Brothers, pray for us.
1Th 5:26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
1Th 5:27 I charge you by the Lord that this letter be
read to all the holy brothers.
